Aligning Ourselves with the Purposes of God

1.  A realignment is underway at Plymouth Church…

  • What is our purpose and are we aligned to that purpose?
  • Does our leadership structure help or hinder us in fulfilling our purpose (Ephesians 4:11-12; 2 Timothy 2:1-3)?
  • Do our by-laws (our internal governance document) help or hinder us in fulfilling our purpose?

2.  Yes, our purpose is to love and worship the True and Living God and live in proper relationship with Him and to love our neighbors, but there is more (Matthew 28:18-20; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20; 2 Peter 3:9)

3.  The Lord wants to use you to change the world – even eternity – before He takes you home.

4.  God has made a great investment in you, and lavished His love and grace on you – with an expectation of a return on that investment.

  • He wants you to bear much fruit (John 15:1-2 and 8).
  • He wants you to be good soil that produces a great crop (Matthew 13:23).
  • He wants you to be a conduit for life giving water to a thirsty world (John 7:37-38).
  • He wants you to be a healthy, reproducing sheep (John 10:7).

5.  God does not approve of a thoughtless, unexamined life that is not concerned with being aligned to His purposes.

  • That thoughtlessness is the spirit of the age and must be rejected (Luke 12:15-21).

What are the priorities of the life that is “rich toward God” (Luke 12:21)?

  • Love God….
  • Love others….
  • And make disciples as you go (Colossians 1:28-29)….
  • Until He calls you home (Philippians 1:20-25).
